I didn’t realize that Vampire Weekend’s Vampire Weekend only came out this year until I saw it on the Top 10 Albums of 2008 list by TIME.
While I’m hardly qualified to comment on the “Afro-pop and indie rock fusion,” I can see why it made the list – catchy enough to get stuck in your head without quite making it into Top 40 notoriety, Vampire Weekend is at the least refreshing.
Plus, they sing about commas.
Pros:
- The album is short ad sweet.
- The lyrics are catchy and the sound is atypical.
- Collared shirts in the music video – done up, too.
Cons:
- Self-titled albums are not classy.
- No signs of Album #2. That this is a problem might be a “pro” for them, though.
Verdict: Good. See for yourself:
