I’m Carolyn Yates, a writer and editor with a focus on the intersection of sexuality and gender with cultural issues and public life.
I’ve written about sex, kink, identity, queerness, polyamory, culture, feminism, bodies, ideas, and my personal life for Nylon, Refinery29, Bitch, The Toast, Jezebel, Autostraddle, The Billfold, Xtra!, and elsewhere.
I was the NSFW Editor for queer feminist Autostraddle.com from 2013 to 2018, and still contribute occasionally. I run sex and kink workshops at A-Camp, a conference slash queer camp slash mountain retreat. In 2015, I conducted the Ultimate Lesbian Sex Survey, a survey of queer women/humans that is one of the largest of its kind.
I grew up in Toronto, studied English and political science at McGill University in Montreal, and now live in Los Angeles. Honestly, I'm into the palm trees, but miss Coffee Crisp.
