About
Carolyn Yates is an experienced writer and copy editor. She is a freelance reporter for Xtra and other publications, is a contributing editor at Autostraddle, and has appeared in Jezebel.
Carolyn has a degree in English literature and political science from McGill University. While there, she was the managing editor of The McGill Tribune, a campus newspaper. She managed the features and arts and entertainment sections, updated the web and print edition design, and inDesigned almost to the point of insanity. Prior to becoming managing editor, she spent two years as a features editor and one year as a writer for A&E.
From 2008 to 2010, Carolyn worked for CLB Media, a B2B magazine publisher. Her work, which ranged from features to profiles to in-house ad copy to direct mail campaigns, appeared in multiple publications, including Canadian Security, SP&T News, Design Product News, Electrical Business, and Manufacturing Automation.
In 2010, Carolyn was a marketing and editorial intern at the University of Toronto Press. She is now a copy editor.
She remains conflicted about serial commas.
Colophon
This site began in June 2008 and is now in its sixth incarnation. The main typeface is FF Tisa, designed by Mitja Miklavcic. It is rendered by Typekit.
Nathan Staines’ HTML5-happy Starkers theme provided a crap-free WordPress theme base, and Dive into HTML5 by Mark Pilgrim helped make it comprehensible.
